Jae Dang Thai-Isan Ratchathewi เจ๊แดง ไทยอีสาน ราชเทวี

Jae Dang is an air-conditioned Thai-Isan restaurant at the mouth of Soi Phetchaburi 14, about 200 metres from BTS Ratchathewi and 500 metres from BTS Phaya Thai according to Wongnai. It seats 41 to 80, takes credit cards and has no parking. Jaekoy, another som tam shop that Grab lists among Ratchathewi's best, is a few doors along the same block, so this corner of Phetchaburi Road has two som tam shops side by side.

Wongnai's menu shows clear prices: Thai som tam with salted egg 110 baht, grilled pork neck 140, grilled chicken 100, nam tok pork 140, grilled pork tongue 140, beef om (an Isan herb stew) 160, raw prawns in fish sauce 180, grilled cockles 179, jim jum pork hot pot 240 and sun-dried squid 320. Reviewers single out the pork neck, the chicken and the squid, say the som tam can be made hotter or saltier on request, and find the dipping sauces for the grill a little weak. Plenty of standard Thai dishes are on the menu too. Wongnai files the shop in its 251-to-500-baht tier, but most reviewers report spending 101 to 250 a head.

Google lists hours of 08:30 to 03:45, which would make it a late-night option, but Wongnai's hours are incomplete and do not match, so call 081-550-9989 before a late trip. Google rates it 4.5 from 438 reviews; Wongnai 3.6 from 39.
