Thonglor Restaurants: 15 Places to Eat on Sukhumvit 55, Soi by Soi
Thonglor restaurants ranked soi by soi: Japanese counters locals book, full-heat Thai, a two-star tasting room, kitchens open to 4am and cheap eats.
Thonglor is Sukhumvit Soi 55, the long soi that runs from BTS Thong Lo north to Phetchaburi Road, and few single streets in Bangkok cover as wide a spread: a Hong Kong noodle shop on Soi 9 that is new to the Michelin Guide, a two-Michelin-star Thai tasting room in an old house one soi over, izakaya with Japanese chefs, a Roi Et Isan grill open until 4am, and the first branch outside Italy of a Naples pizzeria. This guide to Thonglor restaurants covers 15 places whose menus and prices are documented in public sources, arranged from the BTS end up to Soi 16. Ranking comes from Google rating and review volume, documented dishes and prices, and editorial judgement.
Budget in three bands. Everyday sit-down places such as Kruajiangmai, Saep Sudjai, Tsuru Udon and Kiani: 200 to 600 baht a head. Izakaya, brunch and Italian rooms: 400 to 2,000. Kaiseki, the steakhouse and the starred Thai tasting menu: 1,200 to 6,500 a head. Gokfayuen sits below all of them, at the lowest price symbol the Michelin Guide uses. From BTS Thong Lo you come down at the mouth of Sukhumvit 55; Soi 2 to Soi 9 is walkable, and beyond that the red songthaew pickups that run up the soi save the walk. Drivers should aim for the building their restaurant sits in: Baan Ice, Kiani, El Gaucho, Otto, Kitaohji and Starita all have parking in or next to their buildings, while the shophouse kitchens have none.

How Thonglor eats: the soi map and what things cost
Thonglor splits into three eating zones by sub-soi number. From the BTS up to Soi 9 is the walkable stretch: Kiani and Tsuru Udon by Soi 2, Kruajiangmai and Lucca around Soi 5 to 7, Saep Sudjai at number 161/4, and the mouth of Soi 9 with Gokfayuen, Nagiya and the BENKOFF espresso bar in NT Tower. Soi 9 also runs through to Sukhumvit Soi 53, where R-HAAN sits in its old house. The middle of the soi, Soi 8 to Soi 17, is tower and community-mall territory: The Eight Thonglor on Soi 8 holds El Gaucho on the ground floor and Otto on the 11th, Kitaohji hides deep in the same soi, Starita sits in Oakwood on Soi 13, and The Commons on Soi 17 is the multi-level food market that BKKMenu lists open until 01:00. From Soi 16 upward the rooms get smaller, starting with Di Vino in Penny’s Balcony at the mouth of Soi 16.
The thing to know before walking is that Thonglor is not expensive end to end. Most places on this list land between 200 and 900 baht a head; the reputation for expense comes from a handful of steak, kaiseki and tasting-menu rooms that need a booking regardless. On a weekday, the set lunches at Otto (480++ baht in a 2023 Wongnai review) and Di Vino are the gentler way into the evening rooms. Note that Starita is dinner-only on weekdays, that Thonglor Yokocho opens at 17:00 on weekdays, and that R-HAAN and Nagiya open only in the evening, so daytime Thonglor is mostly Thai, Korean, brunch and noodles.
Best restaurants in Thonglor for a night out
For a night that starts with dinner and keeps going, the soi offers three kinds of room. The terraces: El Gaucho’s large front terrace at Eight Thonglor and Otto’s 11th-floor terrace in the same building, which looks down the soi; for a higher view see rooftop bars in Bangkok. The private rooms: Kitaohji’s sunken kotatsu room for 10 to 12, Di Vino’s room for 20 and R-HAAN’s house for the big occasion. And the long-table izakaya: Nagiya with 95 seats, a terrace and a projector, and Thonglor Yokocho with its Showa-alley set, 110 seats and pets allowed outside. Book ahead for all of these. El Gaucho’s half-price grilled steaks on the first Tuesday of the month need a booking days ahead, Starita takes reservations through OpenTable, Di Vino through Bistrochat and Yokocho by phone or LINE.
Most Thonglor bars are drinks-first venues outside this guide’s scope. The crossover places where the food holds up are Nagiya and Yokocho at 300 to 900 baht a head with drinks, Di Vino with its organic Italian list at 600 to 1,500, and Saep Sudjai for Isan plates with beer after midnight at 200 to 450. BK Magazine adds Lucky Fish at 72 Courtyard, serving yakitori until 03:00. Salehere’s late-night list gives the kitchens that outlast the BTS: 55 Pochana at 1087 Sukhumvit Road from 18:30 to 03:30, Loong Mala on the fourth floor of Donki Mall to 04:00, Saengchai Pochana to 02:00 and Meng Pu Dong to 03:00.
Japanese restaurants in Thonglor with Japanese chefs and regulars
Japanese cooking is Thonglor’s deepest bench, and four places on the list cover the range. Thonglor Yokocho, on Sukhumvit Road at the foot of Thonglor, is an izakaya whose Hokkaido chef cooks a soup curry from more than ten vegetables with heat levels from 1 to 100. Tsuru Udon near Soi 2 kneads and cuts its noodles fresh every day and sits up a staircase above a car-care shop. Nagiya at the mouth of Soi 9 is the big after-work izakaya with everything from sashimi to offal skewers at about 30 baht a stick. Kitaohji in Soi 8 is the overseas branch of a kaiseki house from Ginza and Akasaka, courses from 1,600 baht, with on-site parking and a private kotatsu room.
Beyond the list, Salehere names Kitaohji Ginza, a second branch open to 23:00 with king crab and Kobe beef, and Shinya Shokudo, open 17:00 to 04:00 for late ramen and yakitori. Jetsetter points to Aburi Ishida on Sukhumvit Soi 51 as the yakitori counter Japanese residents book, with limited seats. Wanderlog reviewers use Honoho Izakaya for its drink promotions and hours to around 02:00. For omakase you do not need to leave the soi: Ryuzu, on the second floor of Marché Thonglor at 148 Thong Lo Road, lists a 14-course lunch at 3,500++ baht and dinner courses at 5,900++ and 8,900++ on its own site. The Japanese restaurants around Sukhumvit 33 and 39 are in Phrom Phong restaurants, one station down, and the citywide picture, from omakase to ramen, is in Japanese restaurants in Bangkok.
Thai food in Thonglor without the tourist markup
The Thonglor Thai restaurants worth seeking out are the ones that do not soften the food. Kruajiangmai near the mouth of Soi 7 cooks northern Thai from the Chiang Mai owner’s grandmother’s recipes: braised beef shank khao soi 219 baht, khanom jeen nam ngiao 189, pu ong crab paste in the shell 179, across a menu past a hundred dishes that rewards a group. Baan Ice in the Somerset building is the southern Thai restaurant of chef Ice Supaksorn, who went on to open Sorn, a three-star restaurant in the Michelin Guide Thailand 2026; gaeng tai pla at 232 baht and yellow curry with sea bass at 378 come at full heat unless you ask otherwise, and the building stamps four free hours of parking. Saep Sudjai is Roi Et-style Isan at the Sukhumvit 55 end, grilled pork neck and grilled beef at 139 baht a plate and soi ju raw beef at 149, open until 4 or 5am.
For the occasion dinner, R-HAAN by chef Chumpol Jangprai holds two Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide Thailand 2026 and serves a seasonal multi-course samrub, dinner only, 5,200 to 6,500 baht a head, with weekend nights booked out weeks ahead. The other starred rooms in the city are in Michelin star restaurants in Bangkok, and Thai restaurants in the Sukhumvit malls and hotels outside this soi are gathered in Sukhumvit restaurants.
Cheap eats in Thonglor under 200 THB
Cheap eats in Thonglor exist, but you need to know where. Gokfayuen, the Hong Kong noodle shop on Soi 9, carries the Michelin Guide’s lowest price symbol and opens at 07:00, so it works as breakfast; Michelin’s picks are the dry egg noodles with shrimp roe and the tiger-prawn dumplings. Tsuru Udon’s cold zaru udon starts at 210 baht and kamatama niku is 280. Saep Sudjai’s grilled pork neck and grilled beef are 139 baht a plate, Kruajiangmai shared between friends comes to 200 to 450 a head, and Kiani lands at 300 to 600 when a group shares several dishes. These are the places people who work in the soi use without feeling the address.
For a plate on the pavement rather than a seat in a restaurant, see street food in Bangkok, which covers the districts where it is strongest. For a cheap seat that lasts, the cafés in the soi are the other route, from BENKOFF’s espresso bar at Soi 9 to NICO NICO’s 260-baht breakfast plate; those are collected in Thonglor cafes and cafes in Bangkok.
Thonglor restaurants near BTS Thong Lo (under 5 minutes)
From BTS Thong Lo you come down at the mouth of Sukhumvit 55. Kiani, the home-style Korean in the Fifty Fifth building at Soi 2, and Tsuru Udon up the stairs above the car-care shop near Soi 2 are both under five minutes on foot. Kruajiangmai near Soi 7 and Lucca at 125/26 are about eight minutes; Lucca’s 07:00 to 23:00 hours make it the station-end room that covers breakfast, brunch and a late dinner alike. Saep Sudjai and Gokfayuen are around ten minutes, Otto and El Gaucho at The Eight Thonglor about ten, Kitaohji twelve, Starita fourteen, and Thonglor Yokocho about fifteen.
Everything further up is easier by songthaew. The brunch crowd should know that The Standard’s Thonglor brunch list puts most of its picks around Sukhumvit 55 and Soi 13 to 25, so brunch in Bangkok in this neighbourhood usually means a short ride rather than a walk from the platform. Thonglor brunch at the station end is Lucca and, further up near Soi 21, NICO NICO in the DM Home building, whose 260-baht breakfast pairs curry scrambled eggs with braised chashu.
Thonglor vs Ekkamai: where to start
Start in Thonglor if you want Japanese counters, full-heat Thai and places you can reach from the BTS, because the bulk of this list sits between Soi 2 and Soi 16, within about fifteen minutes on foot or a songthaew hop. Ekkamai, the next soi east, has its own list of restaurants, cafés and bars, and the two connect: Thonglor Soi 10 walks through to Ekkamai Soi 5, so a single evening can cover both. The Ekkamai restaurants guide has that side.
For the practicalities: BTS Thong Lo (E6) is the start; odd-numbered sub-sois are on the left as you face up the soi, even numbers on the right. The red songthaew pickups run up the soi from the Sukhumvit end; tell the driver the soi number. Parking belongs to the buildings. Baan Ice stamps the Somerset car park for four free hours, Kiani uses the Fifty Fifth building, El Gaucho and Otto use The Eight Thonglor, Kitaohji has its own spaces, Starita has parking in its building, Nagiya sends you to Grande Centre Point next door, and Thonglor Yokocho has three spaces out front on odd-numbered dates only. The shophouse kitchens, Kruajiangmai and Saep Sudjai, have none.
