About

R-HAAN is chef Chumpol Jangprai's contemporary Thai restaurant, a two-Michelin-star holder for several consecutive guides and still at two stars in the current edition. It lives in a house on Sukhumvit Soi 53, which connects through to Thonglor Soi 9, and opens for dinner only, 6pm to 11pm daily. There is no a la carte; the meal is a seasonal multi-course samrub that begins with a cocktail in a private lounge, moves through an amuse-bouche and then alternates family-style classics with modern reworkings. The dishes the Michelin inspectors call out are the crab-roe and yellow chilli dip served with fresh vegetables and fruit, and the tom yum goong presented through a siphon at the table. The latest seasonal menu runs roughly 5,200 to 6,500 baht a person before drinks, which makes it the most expensive Thai meal in the Thonglor area, and weekend nights book out weeks ahead. Michelin places it in its top price band. Save it for an anniversary or for showing an overseas guest how far Thai cooking can be taken.
