Kaset Nawamin Restaurants: Where to Eat Along Prasert-Manukit Road
Kaset Nawamin restaurants on one 12 km road: Ob-Aroi seafood, southern Thai in a garden, Hue-style Vietnamese, Gulf of Thailand sashimi and two big cafés.
Kaset Nawamin restaurants are built for people who drive. Kaset-Nawamin, officially Prasert-Manukit Road, runs about 12 km from Kaset intersection by Kasetsart University to Nawamin Road with numbered concrete pillars down the middle, and most places to eat along it are roadside restaurants you reach by car. This guide is for expat families living in the north-eastern suburbs and for visitors whose Thai friends have driven them out here for dinner. It ranks eight places whose menus and prices are documented in public sources, from the garden restaurants at the Kaset end through the big seafood houses mid-road to the cafés by the Ram Inthra (Ramintra) expressway road. The order weighs Google rating and review volume, verified dishes and editorial judgement.
Budget roughly three ways. Coffee and cake at Plantation Cafe falls in Wongnai’s 101 to 250 baht band. Vietnamese at Krua Muang Hue and sashimi at Ayoi Sushi Tengoku mostly land between 250 and 500 baht a head. A shared seafood dinner at Ob-Aroi runs around 300 to 600, while Wongnai’s reviewers put Camin and Beer Hima & Panya Seafood at 501 to 1,000 baht a head. Ayoi Sushi Tengoku, Krua Muang Hue, Beer Hima and both cafés list their own parking, and Camin has spaces beside the road. Without a car, BTS Sena Nikhom serves the Kaset end; anything further east is a taxi ride.

How Kaset-Nawamin eats: one 12 km road, parking at every door
The road changes as you drive east. The first stretch, still in Chatuchak district and within walking distance of the BTS, is where the shaded, café-style Thai restaurants are: Camin at the mouth of Soi Prasert-Manukit 2 (also signed Phahon Yothin 34), and Up To Jug under pillar 18 beside a KFC. The middle of the road, in Chorakhe Bua subdistrict of Lat Phrao, holds the large family restaurants. Ob-Aroi and Ayoi Sushi Tengoku share a frontage at numbers 288 and 282, opposite Nawamin City Avenue, and Krua Muang Hue sits opposite The Walk Kaset-Nawamin, just past Hua Mum market. Beer Hima & Panya Seafood is at Soi 25.
Further east, the Ram Inthra expressway frontage road (Pradit Manutham Road) crosses it, and the road runs on into Bueng Kum. Both cafés on this list are out here, on Khlong Lam Chiak. Addresses on this road are given three ways: a house number, a soi number or the pillar in the median outside, such as pillar 18 at Up To Jug near Kaset. After dark the road is better known for drinking than eating: a 2021 Chillpainai round-up listed twenty places along it, most of them bars that open in the late afternoon and close between midnight and 02:00.
Seafood on Kaset-Nawamin Road
The two seafood restaurants on this list suit different evenings. Ob-Aroi is the one to take parents or visiting relatives to, because nothing on the menu is “market price”. Its own site sells the house fish sauce as a product at 120 baht, and it turns up on the deep-fried sea bass at 420 and on raw prawns marinated in the same sauce at 240. Grilled river prawns come in two sizes at 450 and 900, and there is a separate vegetarian (jay) section of seven dishes from 100 baht. On Wongnai’s delivery page, the medium crab fried rice is the item customers recommend most.
Beer Hima & Panya Seafood is louder and hotter. The kitchen cooks southern Thai: prawns with shrimp paste and sataw beans, yellow curry of sea bass with coconut shoots, and prawns fried with bai lep khrut leaves at 220 baht. Wongnai ranks it second among seafood restaurants in Lat Phrao district. Come as a group, because reviewers say the portions are too big for a couple to get far into the menu. For something different, Chillpainai’s 2021 list included Lobster & Oyster at 229 Prasert-Manukit, a grilled seafood bar run by a chef from Hix Oyster & Chophouse in London, with ingredients imported from France and the Netherlands.
Kaset Nawamin restaurants for family dinners: southern Thai and Hue-style Vietnamese
Camin is the garden lunch. The dining room is glass and air-conditioned and looks onto tall trees and a stream, and the café is a short walk across the same plot, so the coconut cake can come to your table after the curries. Menu prices on Wongnai include kaeng som sour curry with sea bass at 329, moo hong braised pork belly at 345 and kai kolae grilled chicken at 260. The room fills at weekend lunch and service slows, so reviewers advise booking.
Krua Muang Hue mixes two kitchens. The owner credits the Vietnamese recipes to a grandmother from Hue and the Isan side to Mukdahan on the Mekong. That makes it the easy answer for a mixed table: banh xeo at 195 and pork grilled in betel leaves at 180 for the mild eaters, som tam pla ra with five chillies as standard for the rest. Eat the Vietnamese pizza as soon as it lands, while the base is still crisp. Up To Jug, near Kaset intersection, covers central Thai food, and owner-chef Jug runs a chef’s table with a menu that changes monthly, booked through LINE.
Japanese: Gulf of Thailand sashimi at Ayoi Sushi Tengoku
Time Out Bangkok’s write-up of Ayoi Sushi Tengoku centres on the daily sashimi platter, made from eight to twelve fish caught in Thai waters, mostly white fish such as sea bass and needlefish, with a fish-of-the-day cart and the odd challenge like steamed bluefin tuna eyeball. Wongnai reviewers paid 290 baht for the Thai fish platter and 650 for 500 g of sashimi. Not every local species will suit everyone, so ask what is on the plate that day. Wongnai ranks it fourth among Japanese restaurants in Lat Phrao district. For the wider city, see Japanese restaurants in Bangkok.
Cafés along the Ram Inthra expressway road
The two cafés here keep different hours. Davin Cafe works from breakfast to midnight: one guide puts lattes from about 140 baht, the menu runs to more than 40 Thai and European dishes, and cocktails start once the Vinsens bar opens at 18:00. Its décor runs to neon-lit columns and copies of classical statues, and its signature drinks pair espresso with mandarin juice or coconut water. Reviewers say it gets crowded at weekends, and pets are not allowed inside.
Plantation Cafe is an afternoon stop. Time Out lists it closing at 19:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends, it takes last orders half an hour earlier, and it is shut on Mondays. It roasts twice a week and sells its beans, including a Brazil Cerrado Mineiro at 290 baht for 250 g, and Wanderlog recommends the Ninety Plus Kule drip. Reviewers rate the coffee above the food. More options across the city are in the guide to cafés in Bangkok.
Getting to Kaset-Nawamin without a car
No train runs along Prasert-Manukit Road yet. BTS Sena Nikhom on the Sukhumvit Line is the stop for the Kaset end: Camin is about a 15-minute walk and Up To Jug about 17 minutes, or a quick motorbike taxi. The MRT Yellow Line stations at Lat Phrao 101 and Chalong Rat are 2 to 3 km from the road, too far to walk to dinner. The MRT Brown Line, which will run above this road, is still under construction. Mid-road restaurants and the cafés off Khlong Lam Chiak mean a Grab or a taxi.
If you are eating your way across the north-east, the road links south to Lat Phrao restaurants and Central Ladprao restaurants via the expressway road or Lat Pla Khao. West of Kaset intersection are the Chatuchak restaurants, and south-east past Bang Kapi are the Ramkhamhaeng restaurants.
Quick answers
FAQ
Where is Kaset-Nawamin, and is it the same as Prasert-Manukit Road?
They are the same road. Prasert-Manukit Road is the official name, and almost everyone calls it Kaset-Nawamin because it runs about 12 km from Kaset intersection, by Kasetsart University on Phahon Yothin, east to Nawamin Road. It crosses Chatuchak, Lat Phrao and Bueng Kum districts. Restaurants give their address as a road number, a soi such as Prasert-Manukit 25, or the number of the concrete pillar outside.
How do I get to Kaset-Nawamin restaurants without a car?
No rail line runs along the road yet. From the Kaset end, take the BTS to Sena Nikhom: Camin is about 1.1 km away and Up To Jug about 1.3 km, a 15 to 17 minute walk or a short motorbike taxi. The middle of the road, where Ob-Aroi and Ayoi Sushi Tengoku are, needs a taxi or Grab. The Yellow Line is 2 to 3 km south, and the Brown Line is still being built.
Which Kaset-Nawamin restaurants are best for seafood?
Ob-Aroi at 288 Prasert-Manukit is the family choice, with printed prices: baked prawns with glass noodles 330 baht, fried sea bass with its house fish sauce 420, four giant oysters 360. Beer Hima & Panya Seafood at Soi 25 cooks spicier southern seafood with beer, and reviewers point to garlic-fried mantis shrimp and salt-crusted sea bass. For raw local fish, Ayoi Sushi Tengoku next to Ob-Aroi serves a Gulf of Thailand sashimi platter.
Are there Kaset-Nawamin restaurants with private rooms for groups?
On this list, Davin Cafe rents out its spaces by the hour, half day or full day for shoots, birthdays and small events. Beer Hima & Panya Seafood has no private room listed but seats more than 150, so a large table is easy. A 2021 Chillpainai round-up names Camp Havana on Soi Prasert-Manukit 21 for karaoke and private party rooms for up to 80 people; check that it still offers them before booking.
Where can I eat late on Kaset-Nawamin?
Davin Cafe stays open until midnight, with its Vinsens bar serving cocktails from 18:00 to guests aged 20 and over. Beer Hima & Panya Seafood takes diners until 23:00 and Ob-Aroi until 22:30. The road's bars run later: a 2021 Chillpainai list gives Sky View, a rooftop at 114 Prasert-Manukit, as 18:30 to 02:00. At the Nawamin end, the Chokdee Dimsum branch on Nawamin Soi 66 lists itself as open 24 hours.
Are there cheap places to eat on Kaset-Nawamin?
Krua Muang Hue is the best-value sit-down meal here: kuay jab noodle soup with Vietnamese pork sausage is 120 baht, Vietnamese dumplings 160 and banh xeo 195, and Wongnai puts most bills at 251 to 500 baht a head. Plantation Cafe falls in Wongnai's 101 to 250 baht band. At Up To Jug, chive cakes were 120 baht and snakeskin gourami fried rice 220 in 2021.
