Chao Phraya River Restaurants: 15 Places to Eat by the River, From Rama VIII Bridge to Bang Kho Laem
Chao Phraya river restaurants ranked: Wat Arun views at Tha Tien, 299-baht mookata under Pinklao Bridge, Michelin rooms on the water, and the boats there.
Chao Phraya river restaurants divide by bank before they divide by price. On the Phra Nakhon side the old town looks west, so the tables at Tha Tien watch the sun go down behind Wat Arun, and upriver at Samsen the Rama VIII Bridge lights up over dinner. The Thonburi bank between the Krung Thon and Phra Pinklao bridges is where the cheap tables are, a 299-baht mookata buffet and a Thai-Chinese pier restaurant with plates from 180 baht. Downriver, the Charoen Krung hotels and ICONSIAM hold the Michelin rooms, where a starred lunch alone runs 1,800 to 4,500 baht. This page ranks 15 river view restaurants in Bangkok, from the Rama VIII Bridge down to Bang Kho Laem, for visitors who want Wat Arun at dusk, residents taking parents out somewhere they can park, and anyone booking a birthday or anniversary dinner on the water. The order comes from Google rating and review volume, dishes traced to a menu, a guide or a review, price evidence and editorial judgement. Two entries, Mezzaluna and Chef’s Table, look down on the river from State Tower rather than sitting beside it.
Budget in three bands where prices are published. Thonburi-bank and old-town tables cost about 250 to 1,000 baht a head: Khanab Nam 250 to 500, Rim Nam Barbeque 299 to 450, Naam 1608 250 to 700, Kinlom Chomsaphan 500 to 1,000. Fallabella’s terrace at ICONSIAM sits in the middle at 500 to 1,200. The hotel and starred rooms start around 1,500 and go past 8,000: Yu Ting Yuan’s dim sum lunches at 1,500 to 1,950++, THE S Bangkok 1,500 to 5,000, SEEN 1,500 to 4,000, Côte 1,800 to 7,000 and Blue 2,550 to 8,500. For getting there, use MRT Sanam Chai exit 1 for Tha Tien, BTS Saphan Taksin for Sathorn Pier and every boat that leaves it, the Gold Line to Charoen Nakhon for ICONSIAM, and MRT Hua Lamphong for Talat Noi. The Samsen and Thonburi-bank restaurants have their own car parks and are easiest by car or Grab.

The Chao Phraya by stretch: which bank and which budget
Read the river from north to south. The Chao Phraya River enters the city past Nonthaburi, and the first stretch worth a dinner trip is between Krung Thon Bridge, which locals still call Sang Hi, and the Rama VIII Bridge. On the Phra Nakhon side, Kinlom Chomsaphan seats somewhere between 81 and 150 people according to Wongnai, which is why it takes the big family tables. Across the water in Bang Phlat, from Krung Thon Bridge down to Phra Pinklao Bridge, Khanab Nam and Rim Nam Barbeque are the riverside end of our Pinklao restaurants guide.
Below Phra Pinklao Bridge the old town begins. Tha Tien and Tha Maharaj face Wat Arun, and the restaurants are in shophouses and converted buildings on Maha Rat Road. Past Memorial Bridge comes Chinatown’s riverside edge, Song Wat Road and Talat Noi, where the river hides behind warehouses and you reach it down alleys. From Si Phraya to Saphan Taksin the east bank is Charoen Krung, hotel frontage almost all the way, with ICONSIAM and the Charoen Nakhon hotels opposite. South of the bridge the hotels continue to the Four Seasons and Capella, then the road thins out past Asiatique into Bang Kho Laem, where THE S Bangkok sits at the start of the long Rama III bend. Past THE S lies the Rama III bend, and upriver lies Nonthaburi; both have riverside restaurants too, but this list covers the stretch from the Rama VIII Bridge to Bang Kho Laem.
Restaurants near Wat Arun: the view from Tha Tien
Wat Arun stands on the Thonburi bank, so every Wat Arun view restaurant worth booking is on the Tha Tien side looking west. The two here sit a few doors apart on Maha Rat Road and suit different meals. Rongros is the Wat Arun restaurant Michelin keeps listing: a garage converted with chandeliers and painted Chinese panels, a terrace, and a rooftop that is the reason most people book. Michelin’s Rattanakosin map adds shrimp fried rice, dried fish over watermelon and crispy morning-glory salad to the curry everyone orders. BK Magazine priced that curry at 260 baht with chicken and 380 with striploin in 2020, so expect more now. Lunch runs 11:00 to 15:00 and dinner 17:00 to 22:00, and the kitchen is closed in between, so a late lunch after the temples means waiting until five.
Supanniga Eating Room is a few doors along, on the Riva Arun hotel’s river frontage. The cooking is home-style from Trat and Khon Kaen. Time Out singles out nam prik khai pu, a hot crab-roe relish, and cabbage fried in Trat fish sauce until caramelised, which it found close to too salty. There is also a dessert only this branch makes, coconut rice cake with taro, corn and dried shrimp, cooked in small batches, so call ahead if you want it. A 2023 review of the group put mains at 250 to 350 baht. Neither restaurant has parking, and both are about six minutes on foot from MRT Sanam Chai exit 1. The rest of the neighbourhood, from Wat Pho noodle shops to Khao San, is in our Old Town restaurants guide.
Cheap Chao Phraya river restaurants on the Thonburi bank
The cheapest way to eat with your table actually on the river is to cross to Thonburi. Khanab Nam serves Thai-Chinese cooking on a pier under Krung Thon Bridge. The bridge is lit after 18:00, so ask for a pier table then. Seafood hor mok, o suan oyster omelette and prawn cakes are 180 baht each and the crispy ped ron duck 260. Reviewers rate the breeze above the cooking, and the Wongnai reviews on show all predate 2020. Enter from Ratchawithi Road; the car park is on site. It opens at 11:00 daily, and Wongnai lists closing at 23:00 where Google says midnight.
Rim Nam Barbeque, downriver under Phra Pinklao Bridge, turns the river view into a mookata night. The buffet is 299 baht a head, 319 if you come alone, and the cooked line runs to curry-fried crab, blue crab salad and soft-serve. Reviewers agree you come for the view and the price, not for premium seafood. A big fan keeps the air moving, and MRT Bang Yi Khan is about 1.7 km away, so drive or take a taxi. For other grills see mookata in Bangkok, and for all-you-can-eat across the city, buffets in Bangkok.
On the Phra Nakhon side, Kinlom Chomsaphan is the mid-price compromise: dearer than Thonburi, cheaper than any hotel, with an air-conditioned room for hot afternoons and a terrace on the Rama VIII Bridge side. Grab’s riverside list points to yum sam saep, a spicy salad of prawn, squid and oyster. Wongnai puts the spend at 501 to 1,000 baht a head and scores it 3.5, with complaints about value and dishes selling out, so go early. Closing time differs by source: Google and Thailand Magazine say midnight, Wongnai 23:00, so phone before a late booking.
A Chao Phraya river dinner for an occasion: the hotel and Michelin rooms
For a birthday or anniversary, the river’s serious kitchens are in hotels between Oriental Pier and Capella. Côte at Capella sits right on the water at two-star level: Mirazur alumnus Davide Garavaglia runs the kitchen, menus change every few months, and there are wine and alcohol-free pairings. Dinner prices are not published, and last orders at dinner are 20:30, earlier than many expect. Dress is smart casual with no shorts or flip-flops, and the hotel has valet parking. Le Normandie, for decades Bangkok’s reference French room, was renovated for Pic’s arrival with her Japanese head chef Tamaki Kobayashi. The only public price is a three-course business lunch at 4,500++ baht, Wednesday to Friday, so treat dinner as an unpublished two-star bill.
Across the water, Blue at ICONSIAM publishes its menus. A three-course business lunch is 2,950 baht, the five-course Découverte 6,500 and the seven-course Voyage 8,500. On Tuesday and Wednesday it serves dinner only. It has two private rooms, Bronze for six and Pink for eight to ten, which makes it the practical choice for a family celebration. Yu Ting Yuan at the Four Seasons, which Michelin called Thailand’s first starred Cantonese room in its 2022 guide, looks onto a reflecting pool, not the river itself, and its dim sum comes from chef Zhao Yan at lunch only, 11:30 to 14:30. THE S Bangkok is the value booking among the hotel rooms, run by executive chef Eisuke Kusunoki with an open kitchen. It takes bookings on TableCheck, last dinner entry is 21:30, and no train reaches it.
If the view from above matters more than being at water level, State Tower’s two French rooms open at 17:30 and look down on the river bend. Mezzaluna’s chef works subtle Thai flavours into a French menu, and the inspectors say the plate impresses more than the view. Chef’s Table plates crab tiramisu and Challans duck with beetroot and gnocchi. The lifts are shared with Sirocco and Sky Bar and fill with tourists at dusk, so arrive early. For the full starred list see Michelin restaurants in Bangkok, and for dinners where the room matters more than the river, romantic restaurants in Bangkok.
Talat Noi, Charoen Krung and ICONSIAM in brief
The Charoen Krung bank has its own guide, Charoen Krung riverside restaurants, which covers the shophouses and cafes between Talat Noi and Asiatique. One Talat Noi table belongs here because it sits on the water. Naam 1608 is a quiet cafe by day that Time Out says turns into a busy dining room as the light fades. Reviewers mention the sunset and live music, and the usual complaint is small portions. Grilled river prawns appear at weekends only. On Friday and Saturday Google shows it open until 23:00. The food streets inland are in our Chinatown restaurants guide.
ICONSIAM is the easiest river dinner in the city if you are staying on the Silom or Sathorn side. Fallabella’s sixth-floor terrace looks over the whole river bend, and Airportels recommends it after dark, when part of the open-air space runs as a bar. Daily News and Klook give closing as 22:00 and Google as 23:30, so call 096 892 6425 before a late booking. The other restaurants in the mall, from food-hall stalls to Blue, are in our ICONSIAM restaurants guide. Downriver on the same bank, SEEN at the Avani+ Riverside is the boat-ride dinner. The open-air bar on the floor above became SIN in late 2024, the dress code rules out sportswear and open shoes for men, and the last boat back to Sathorn leaves at 23:00. For drinks with a view rather than dinner, see rooftop bars in Bangkok.
Dinner cruise or riverside table?
Dinner cruises board mainly at the ICONSIAM, Asiatique, River City and Terminal 21 Rama 3 piers, according to a ticket agent’s August 2026 pier guide, and they sell the moving view: Wat Arun, the Grand Palace and the lit bridges in one evening, with a buffet or set menu chosen by the boat. A fixed table works the other way round. You choose the kitchen, from a two-star tasting menu to a 299-baht mookata, and the view is whatever that bank faces. This page ranks restaurants, not cruise operators, so no boats are listed. If you want both, book an early table at Rongros or Supanniga one night and a cruise from ICONSIAM or Asiatique another.
Getting there by boat, MRT and Gold Line
Sathorn Pier, directly under BTS Saphan Taksin, is the hub for the river. The Chao Phraya Express runs upriver from here to Oriental pier for the Mandarin Oriental, Si Phraya, Ratchawong for Naam 1608 and Tha Tien for Rongros and Supanniga. Shuttle boats leave the same pier for ICONSIAM and the Mandarin Oriental, and the Avani+ Riverside’s free boat for SEEN goes every half hour from 08:15 to 23:15 and also runs hourly from ICONSIAM between 12:25 and 20:25. The express boats stop running in the early evening, so after dinner plan on a taxi, Grab or the train.
By rail, MRT Sanam Chai exit 1 comes up about six minutes on foot from the Tha Tien restaurants, and MRT Hua Lamphong is about ten minutes on foot from Naam 1608. The Gold Line from BTS Krung Thonburi stops at Charoen Nakhon, outside ICONSIAM and Blue. For State Tower, walk about ten minutes from BTS Saphan Taksin. Côte, Yu Ting Yuan and THE S Bangkok are a short taxi ride south of Saphan Taksin, and only the hotels have valet parking.
Drivers have it easiest at the north end. Kinlom Chomsaphan, Khanab Nam and Rim Nam Barbeque all have their own parking, and ICONSIAM has the mall car park. For Rongros, Supanniga and Naam 1608, the MRT or the boat is the simpler way in.
Quick answers
FAQ
Which restaurants have a view of Wat Arun?
Two on this list face the temple across the Chao Phraya from Tha Tien, on Maha Rat Road. Rongros, a Michelin Guide selection, has a terrace and rooftop that Michelin recommends booking for sunset. Supanniga Eating Room takes the river frontage of the Riva Arun hotel a few doors along, and Time Out describes its tables as directly facing Wat Arun. Both are about six minutes on foot from MRT Sanam Chai exit 1.
Are there cheap restaurants on the Chao Phraya River?
Yes, mostly on the Thonburi bank. Rim Nam Barbeque under Phra Pinklao Bridge is a 299-baht mookata buffet with riverside tables, and Khanab Nam under Krung Thon Bridge serves Thai-Chinese plates from 180 baht on a pier, about 250 to 500 baht a head. On the other bank, Naam 1608 in Talat Noi runs about 250 to 700 baht, and Kinlom Chomsaphan by the Rama VIII Bridge about 500 to 1,000.
Which Chao Phraya river restaurants have Michelin stars?
On their guide.michelin.com pages for the 2026 edition: Côte by Mauro Colagreco at Capella and Anne-Sophie Pic at Le Normandie at the Mandarin Oriental hold two stars, Blue by Alain Ducasse at ICONSIAM holds one. Mezzaluna and Chef's Table in State Tower hold two stars each and look down on the river from the 65th and 61st floors. Yu Ting Yuan won a star in the 2022 guide and is now listed without one.
Is a dinner cruise better than a riverside restaurant?
They sell different things. A Chao Phraya dinner cruise, boarding mainly at the ICONSIAM, Asiatique, River City or Terminal 21 Rama 3 piers, gives you the moving view of the temples and bridges, with a set buffet or menu the boat decides. A riverside table lets you choose the kitchen: a two-star tasting menu at Côte, Wat Arun at sunset from Rongros, or a 299-baht mookata under Pinklao Bridge. For food, book a table; for sightseeing, take the boat.
How do I get to the river restaurants by boat?
Start at Sathorn Pier under BTS Saphan Taksin. The Chao Phraya Express runs upriver to Si Phraya, Ratchawong for Talat Noi, and Tha Tien for Rongros and Supanniga. The ICONSIAM shuttle boat, the Mandarin Oriental's hotel boat and the Avani+ Riverside's free boat for SEEN, every half hour, leave from the same pier. Express boats finish in the early evening, so plan a taxi or train home after dinner unless you are on a hotel boat.
Which river restaurants are best for New Year fireworks, and when should I book?
Book for the seat, not the menu: the tables that actually see the water are few. Naam 1608 has only a handful on its back deck, and Michelin tells diners to book Rongros' terrace even on ordinary nights, so reserve as soon as each restaurant opens New Year's Eve bookings. THE S Bangkok charges 30 to 100 percent cancellation fees depending on notice, so confirm your plans before paying a deposit anywhere.
Which bank of the river faces the sunset?
The Phra Nakhon bank. Through the old town the river runs roughly north to south, so Tha Tien, Samsen and Talat Noi look west, and the sun goes down behind Wat Arun and the Thonburi shore. That is why Michelin tells diners to book Rongros' terrace for sunset. Thonburi-bank tables such as Khanab Nam and Rim Nam face east, toward the lit bridges and the city after dark.
