Chatuchak in the late afternoon: the market's covered lanes and clock tower, the park and the skytrain line behind

Chatuchak restaurants split by the calendar. Inside the weekend market, the sit-down rooms and stalls mostly trade on Saturday and Sunday. Around Mo Chit, where people live and work, a Tuesday lunch means something else: a sourdough bakery across the road from Or Tor Kor, a café above a florist on Phahonyothin Soi 18/1, a krapao shop that cooks until 23:30, and a fish restaurant inside Rot Fai Park. This 2026 list has 12 places with menus and prices from public sources, ranked on Google rating and review volume, dish evidence and editorial judgement, and every entry says which days it opens, because at Chatuchak that decides more than anything else. If you only want the market lanes, the Chatuchak market food guide goes section by section and gate by gate.

Budgets fall into three bands. Market snacks and made-to-order plates cost 35 to 150 baht; a bag of seven pork meatballs at Chin Pan Sod is 35. Sit-down Thai rooms and cafés such as 168 Thai Restaurant, Daisy or Kaarom run about 95 to 500 baht a head. LARDER, the most comfortable room on the Or Tor Kor side, is 250 to 500. Four stations serve the area. BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park interchange on Phahonyothin Road and are the stops for Chatuchak Park, Soi 18/1 and Mixt Chatuchak. MRT Kamphaeng Phet exit 2 comes up at the market’s edge on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, three minutes on foot from Or Tor Kor and LARDER. Rot Fai Park is closest to MRT Phahon Yothin. Drivers can use the market and Chatuchak Park car parks.

Where to eat in Chatuchak: the market, Mo Chit or Rot Fai Park

The market is one of four places to eat in Chatuchak, and they are far enough apart that it pays to pick one before you set off. Inside the weekend market, the rooms with real tables cluster in Sections 3 and 4: 168 Thai on lane 46/1, AT345 on Soi 45, and Jad Jan’s som tam by Gate 23. Everything else is stalls and counters spread through the numbered sections.

Along Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, on the market’s other edge, the food changes. Or Tor Kor, the fresh market opposite, sells cooked food most days of the week. LARDER sits in the Best Western on the same stretch, and Yum Jae Ueng is about 100 m from MRT Kamphaeng Phet. On the Phahonyothin Road side, across from Chatuchak Park, Soi 18/1 is where the office crowd eats, and Mixt Chatuchak is the air-conditioned mall beside the market where Kaarom’s coffee bar sits.

The fourth zone is Rot Fai Park, officially Vachirabenjatas Park, north of Chatuchak Park. People come to cycle or run its loop and then eat at Krua Nai Suan, the one Rot Fai Park restaurant on this list: a central Thai fish kitchen among the trees with an air-conditioned room added in a renovation.

Restaurants near BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park

For Mo Chit restaurants within walking distance of the station, go to Soi Phahonyothin 18/1, which runs off the main road opposite the market, six to eight minutes on foot from BTS Mo Chit. Two places on this list are here. Daisy Cafe & Bakehouse is on the second floor of 1032/67, and you reach it by walking through Flower in Hand by P, the florist below. Kor Phror Kaphrao is in the same soi, opposite Gate 5 behind the Thairath newspaper office; the paper’s own food column wrote it up after the writer kept seeing delivery riders crowded at the counter. BK Magazine’s neighbourhood piece adds two more in Daisy’s building: First Floor Dining Room, which sells a lamb krapao for 125 baht, and Mezzanine upstairs, a coffee bar by day and a cocktail bar at night.

On the far side of the station, Mixt Chatuchak sits on Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road next to the market. Kaarom is at the very back of its ground floor in Zone B. Of the Chatuchak cafes on this list, it is the one to sit in with a laptop for an hour, since the seats have sockets. The mall’s food court is cheaper still; a Burpple post singles out grilled bread with sangkhaya custard at 20 baht a piece. Chin Pan Sod’s meatball stall stands on the Section 5 pavement along Phahonyothin Road, so you pass it on the walk from Mo Chit without entering the lanes.

Chatuchak restaurants open on weekdays

Monday to Thursday, most of the market is shut. Wongnai’s market guide lists only the plant section on Wednesday and Thursday, 05:00 to 18:00, and few food sellers set up for it. That makes 168 Thai, AT345 and Jad Jan weekend-only, while Chin Pan Sod and Mae Sumontha start on Friday. For Yum Jae Ueng, Google and an August 2025 review give Friday to Sunday, but its Wongnai listing shows Saturday and Sunday only, so do not count on a Friday.

Six places on the list open between Monday and Thursday. LARDER opens at 07:00, with a dinner service on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as weekends. Daisy opens at 09:30 Monday to Friday, Kaarom at 10:00, and Kor Phror Kaphrao runs from 09:00 to 23:30 every day. Krua Nai Suan opens daily in Rot Fai Park. Onewin Crab Noodles is the odd one: a market shop that Google lists open Tuesday to Thursday from about 10:00 to 17:00, and the Bangkok Seven newsletter describes an enclosed air-conditioned room there as well as the main tables. Across the road, Sudjai Kai Yang in the Or Tor Kor car park is open Tuesday to Sunday.

Cheap eats in Chatuchak

Eating cheaply is the easy part of a Chatuchak day. Chin Pan Sod is the cheapest stop on this list: 35 baht for seven pork meatballs, 50 for eleven, and 110 for half a kilo to take home, with a seafood sauce and a tamarind jaew that regulars mix together. Mae Sumontha sells honey-grilled pork by weight; older Wongnai reviews quote 35 to 50 baht per 100 g and a 2025 review 60, so ask before you order. At Jad Jan, a salted-egg papaya salad is 70 baht. Outside the market, Kor Phror Kaphrao’s chain menu starts at 65 baht for minced chicken, with a fried egg 13 baht extra.

For a full lunch on a small budget, Time Out’s market guide prints a few stall prices worth knowing: khao mok from the Muslim restaurant in Section 12 at 50 baht, Rattanakosin boat noodles in zone A 48 at 60 a bowl, and coconut ice cream at Coco JJ from 60. Funliday adds a 49-baht pizza slice in Section 4, Soi 47/3. Few of those come with a proper table. The 168-baht pad thai at 168 Thai buys you a roof, a chair and a portion Time Out calls huge.

Chatuchak at night: late kitchens and a bar

Market stalls pack up between 18:00 and 20:00. The Friday-night market is the exception, and its hours are disputed: Time Out gives 18:00 to midnight, Wongnai 08:00 to 21:00. For a sit-down dinner after 20:00, four places on the list are still cooking. Kor Phror Kaphrao is the latest, at 23:30 every night. LARDER serves dinner from Wednesday to Sunday, to 22:30 on Wongnai and 23:00 on Google, and Onewin keeps going to 22:30 on Friday and 22:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Krua Nai Suan is listed to 23:00 on Google but 21:00 on Wongnai, so call before heading to Rot Fai Park.

For a drink, Mezzanine, upstairs in the Soi 18/1 building that holds Daisy, is a coffee bar by day and a cocktail bar at night; BK Magazine prices a Negroni at 180 baht and an old fashioned at 280. Inside the market, Brio Bistro & Bar in Section 2, Soi 40/3 carries more than thirty gins and opens only at weekends. BK also points to Frankfurt 71, a beer and steak house in The Camp vintage market on Kamphaeng Phet Soi 1. After midnight you have to go further up the road: Grab lists Khao Man Kai Jae Uan on Phahonyothin Soi 32/1, open 17:00 to 02:00, and Jok Mallika on Lat Phrao Soi 1, open 24 hours.

The weekend market and Or Tor Kor, in brief

Or Tor Kor is the fresh market on the opposite side of Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road: get off at MRT Kamphaeng Phet and cross. Its prepared-food stalls open on weekdays, so if eating is the whole point of the trip, go on a weekday. Time Out gave five stars to Sudjai Kai Yang, the som tam and grilled chicken shop in the Or Tor Kor car park, run by the first national som tam champion and open Tuesday to Sunday from 08:00 to 18:30. The World of Street Food blog records noodles with lump crab meat and shrimp wontons there at 200 baht a bowl. Street food in Bangkok puts Or Tor Kor alongside the city’s other market halls.

The weekend market keeps loose hours: am2026thailand gives 09:00 to 18:00 at weekends, with some sections open on Friday afternoon, and Wongnai 08:00 to 21:00. For stalls by section, gate and budget, use the Chatuchak market food guide.

Saphan Khwai and Pradipat, one stop south

Saphan Khwai restaurants are a separate trip from Chatuchak: one BTS stop south of Mo Chit, and too far to walk with shopping bags. Pradipat Road runs west off Phahonyothin at the junction. Ari restaurants covers the Pradipat side of that neighbourhood, and Ari cafes has the coffee shops around Soi Ari. Two places on this stretch have details in public sources. The Standard writes up HIDE Dine&Wine, a second-floor restaurant and wine bar near BTS Saphan Khwai that pairs each dish with a wine. BK Magazine picks Sanan, a seafood restaurant on Phahonyothin Road, for its khanom jeen with crab curry at 450 baht.

North of Chatuchak Park, one MRT stop away at Phahon Yothin, Central Ladprao has its own restaurant floors and food court, all in Central Ladprao restaurants. The road beyond the mall is covered in Lat Phrao restaurants.

Getting there and parking

Four stations ring the area, so most visits need no car at all. According to am2026thailand, BTS Mo Chit exit 1 leads straight toward the market. MRT Chatuchak Park exit 1 comes up on the park side, and Time Out’s guide suggests cutting through the park to reach the market. MRT Kamphaeng Phet exit 2 opens beside the plant and pet sections. For restaurants near Kamphaeng Phet MRT, Yum Jae Ueng is about 100 m from the station, and Or Tor Kor and LARDER are a three-minute walk across the road. For Rot Fai Park and Krua Nai Suan, MRT Phahon Yothin is about 700 m away. am2026thailand lists bus routes 3, 26, 96, 104, 122, 134, 136, 145, 157 and 509 for the market.

If you drive, am2026thailand points to the market car park or Chatuchak Park across the road. Mixt Chatuchak has a car park in the building, and Wongnai lists parking at Krua Nai Suan. Soi 18/1 is narrow with roadside spaces only, so park once and walk. Coming from somewhere else on the MRT, ride to Kamphaeng Phet or Chatuchak Park rather than circling the market by car.

Quick answers

6 questions

Inside the weekend market, 168 Thai Restaurant in Section 3 (Google 4.8) and AT345 by Yorwor are the two full Thai menus with real tables, and AT345 has an air-conditioned room. Outside the market, LARDER on Kamphaeng Phet Road does sourdough brunch and weekday dinners, and Onewin Crab Noodles in Section 12 serves its crab omelette on weekdays too. For coffee, Daisy on Phahonyothin Soi 18/1 scores 4.9 on Google, the highest of the cafés on this list.
