About
Lhong Ma Lhao is a newer khao tom kui rice-soup house on Phadung Dao Road on the Krung Thai Bank side, a few steps from Soi Texas. It had been open about six months when the first Wongnai review appeared. The decor is red in a Chinese style, and the top floor is an open-air rooftop the reviewer recommends from evening into the night, something the older rice-soup joints in the district do not have. The list of side dishes is long: Wongnai reviews name crispy pork, lump crab in curry powder, gourami salad and prawn-and-mushroom spring rolls, with a bowl of rice soup at about 10 baht and plain rice 15. Grab recommends grouper khao tom kui, pork-offal khao tom and mixed crab stir-fried with spring onion, giving it 4.9 from 21 reviews, and the Wongnai gallery shows sea bass with Chinese celery, a tom yum seafood instant-noodle hot pot, flame-fried morning glory and fried banana. Spend is 101 to 250 baht a head. Open daily 12:00 to 23:00. Wongnai gives about 4.1 from a few dozen reviews; Google 4.7 from nearly 300. It is still new and thinly documented, but it is the rooftop late-night rice soup option that Soi Texas lacks. Five minutes from MRT Wat Mangkon.
