About
Don Don is a long-running monjayaki and okonomiyaki house at 1/44-45 Sukhumvit Soi 39; Wongnai's directions are to enter Soi 39, take the first left and continue to the end, under a hundred metres from BTS Phrom Phong. Some reviewers claim it was Thailand's first monjayaki restaurant and has been open more than twenty years, which is reviewer talk rather than a confirmed fact. Google rates it 4.4 from more than 600 reviews, Wongnai 4.0 from 123 ratings with a per-head band of 251 to 500 baht. There are two floors, the upper one tatami seating that regulars say is livelier. Prices in reviews are a basic monjayaki at about 210 baht, toppings around 60 each and a seafood monja around 330. Dishes recommended repeatedly are the monjayaki, okonomiyaki, miso eggplant, omelette-wrapped yakisoba, cold tofu, garlic cheese gyoza and zaru udon. Wongnai's hours are Monday and Wednesday to Friday 11:30 to 22:30, weekends 11:30 to 21:30, with Tuesday missing and probably closed. Two or three cars can park in front.
