About
Hokkaido Genshiyaki is an izakaya at the Silom Road end of Thaniya, two or three minutes from BTS Sala Daeng. What sets it apart from the rest of Thaniya's Japanese rooms is the genshiyaki hearth in the middle of the restaurant, where fish and seafood are grilled slowly over low charcoal in the Hokkaido manner. Time Out's Thai edition says the first order is the grilled hokke, crisp skin and soft flesh, and that regulars are attached to the bacon cream pasta; Wongnai's Silom list names the Salmon Club and the grilled Atka mackerel and marks it four baht signs. It runs two sittings, 11:30 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 22:00, daily, with table, counter and private-room seating bookable on TableCheck (parties over 13 should call). No itemised prices for the Silom branch are published; the Sukhumvit 26 branch is reviewed at 251 to 500 baht a head, and this one will run higher if you order several grilled fish. Google: 4.7 from 1,116 reviews.
