About
Boon Tong Kee began in 1979 as a chicken-rice cart in Singapore, run by Tian Boon Hua, who had learned Hainanese chicken rice as a 13-year-old to help support his family. The cart became a restaurant on Balestier Road and then a Singapore-style Chinese restaurant group that later opened in Thailand. The Bang Khae branch is on the G floor of The Mall Lifestore Bangkae, in the food hall zone, and the brand's own branch list includes it.
The signature is the poached chicken, sold in four sizes from XS for one person to a whole L bird for four or more, with chicken-fat rice. There is also a roasted version whose skin is crisped in the oven rather than fried. Grab's list of four must-orders adds the old-style roast duck (half or whole), Hong Kong kai lan stir-fried with garlic and house-brewed chrysanthemum tea. The Thai website lists steamed sea bass with soy sauce, Hokkien fried noodles, and the 999-baht Luck & Love set: the signature chicken (drumstick and thigh), a crispy duck drumstick, Sichuan dumplings, a soup, long beans with minced pork, fried tofu and rice for four.
Wongnai puts the chain at 200–400 baht a head. This branch has 109 Google reviews so far, averaging 4.8. The brand's branch page gives its hours as 10:00 to 21:00 Monday to Friday and 10:00 to 21:30 at weekends.
