About

Kogoro Katsu is a tonkatsu specialist on the second floor of a Siam Square Soi 7 shophouse, next to Chicken Club, which belongs to the same group. The recipe comes from Niigata, Japan's pear country, and the house pear sauce, sweet and sharp, is what sets it apart from other katsu places in Bangkok; a second, darker sauce is simmered from vegetables, fruit and seventeen-odd spices. Every set comes with Iwate-grown rice, steamed egg custard, soup and shredded cabbage, and the rice, soup and cabbage are refillable. The Standard's 2022 review priced the sous-vide pork katsu set, with pork cooked for sixteen hours before frying, at 470 baht, the mozzarella-stuffed loin set at 420 and the Angus rib-eye gyukatsu on a hot stone at 780. The chain's current Wongnai menu lists a pork loin set at 279, tenderloin at 289 and a gyukatsu set at 699, so budget 280 to 500 baht a head. Google lists it open daily 11:30 to 22:00 (The Standard's 2022 review gave 21:30). The room has Japanese wood tones and curtains between tables, so a solo lunch feels fine.
