About

LAUN is the walk-in sibling of Baan Nual, the Thai restaurant whose reservations Time Out calls out of reach. Brother and sister Tommy and Yu Sakornsin opened it in 2022 and named it by spelling Nual backwards. Yu develops the recipes, and both The Standard and Common stress that the menu is its own thing rather than a cut-down Baan Nual: one-plate rice dishes and Thai-leaning pasta in a dark-green corner shophouse.

Prices reported by The Standard and Time Out: braised pork belly over rice with a fried egg 280 baht, made with five-spice pork belly where Baan Nual uses ribs; crispy fried pork cubes with egg 200; baked chicken rice, slow-cooked for three hours, 280; spaghetti in prawn-fat sauce 350; dried-chilli spaghetti with bacon 320. Budget from about 250 baht a head. There are no reservations.

Check the address before you set out. The 2022 write-ups put LAUN at 43 Soi Samsen 4 near Banglamphu, open mornings into the afternoon. Google's current listing gives 39 Fueang Nakhon Road near Wat Ratchabophit, the street Baan Nual moved to in 2023, with hours to 20:30 and a 4.9 rating from almost 900 reviews.
