About
Jay Fai is a street-food shophouse that has held a Michelin star since the first Bangkok guide in 2018 and retained in the Thailand 2026 list. The corner shophouse sits on Maha Chai Road at the Samran Rat intersection near Pratu Phi. Supinya Junsuta, born around 1945, still works the charcoal stoves herself in ski goggles and has never written a recipe down. Two dishes create the queue: the crab omelette, which the Michelin inspector calls crispy and golden-brown, and the seafood drunken noodles. Tom yum seafood, prawns in yellow curry and dry congee round out the short menu. On price, be clear-eyed. In August 2025 the Department of Internal Trade fined the restaurant 2,000 baht for not displaying a price, after officials from the department, the Consumer Protection Board and police inspected the shop: a YouTuber had been charged 4,000 baht for an omelette listed at 1,500; the restaurant said the 4,000-baht version is a premium plate for regulars, and the department ordered it to display both prices. Chiang Rai Times put most dishes at 800 to 1,500 baht. Michelin lists Wednesday to Saturday, 09:00 to 19:30, cash only. The queue is organised but runs to hours. Google scores it 3.6 from over 5,000 reviews. MRT Sam Yot is about twelve minutes on foot.
